Iron, food, and your period

Blood loss uses iron. Meals cannot replace medical care for anemia, but they can support recovery.

Why iron comes up

Heavy periods can contribute to low iron stores. Signs such as unusual fatigue, dizziness, or breathlessness deserve a clinician and possibly a blood test — not just a smoothie.

Foods people often lean on

Legumes, leafy greens, eggs, meat or fish if you eat them, and vitamin C alongside plant iron can help absorption. This is general nutrition education, not a meal plan or a treatment.
